Every man loves a mean car. We love to be behind the wheel of a sleek powerful machine watching the world blur past the window. Let's leave the politically correct, environment-friendly plodders for other days. Today, we look at the 10 of the meanest cars of 2011 that show scant regard for the environment. In a list compiled by GreenerCars.org (affiliated with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy), these cars are among the least fuel-efficient automobiles in the world.
Fuel Efficiency
1. Bugatti Veyron
The Bugatti Veyron is the fastest production car in the world. It also has one of the lowest fuel efficiency ratios among automobiles of about 8 mpg in the city and 15 mpg on highways. A gas guzzler if ever there was one, it merited an abysmally low Green Score of 19. So, while it is one of the fastest supercars you can drive, you may have to stop your cruising every now and then just to tank up!
2. Chevrolet Suburban K2500
It is the longest-lived automobile to bear the 'Suburban' nameplate, a classic in its own right. However, with an average of 10 mpg in the city and 15 mpg on highways, it is far from being a favorite among the environmentally conscious. With a Green Score of 20, the Suburban K2500 is only marginally better than the Bugatti Veyron.
3. Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab
Pick-up trucks form a majority on the Meanest Cars of 2011 list, with 4 of them making it to the list. The Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab boasts a fuel efficiency ratio of 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. Although it boasts a higher fuel efficiency than the Suburban K2500, it earned a Green Score of 20.
4. Ford F-250 (FFV)
The Ford F-250 does not fare any better than the Dodge Ram with a Green Score of 20. Touted to be more environmentally friendly due to its flex fuel engine, it boats a lower fuel efficiency ratio than the Dodge Ram. It averages at about 12 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on h highways.
5. Ford F-150 Raptor
Powered by a 6.2L engine,, the Ford F-150 Raptor is one of the best-selling pick-up trucks in 2011. With an average of 11 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on highways, it rates the same Green Score as the F-250, 20. The F-150 Flex Fuel Version, however, fares better than both Ford models on the list with a Green Score of 32.
6. Mercedes Benz ML 63 AMG
Mercedes AMG models are known for their high performance and are considered to offer the best performance of each Mercedes series. The ML 63 AMG SUV features a handcrafted 6.2L M156 V8 engine and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds. However, it also boasts a fuel efficiency of a measly 11 mpg in the city and a low Green Score of 21.
7. GMC Sierra K2500
The GMC Sierra K2500 is the best performing pick-up truck on this list. It is still far from being the best choice for the environmentally conscious. It averages at 12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on highways, earning it a Green Score of 21. For those who cannot do without a truck, a better alternative offered by GM is the GMC Canyon with its high Green Score of 37.
8. Bentley Mulsanne
First of the two Bentleys on the list, the Bentley Mulsanne revived the Mulsanne name in 2010. It is also the first flagship model to be designed independently by Bentley Motors in eight decades. The luxury sedan has a fuel efficiency of 11 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on highways. With a Green Score of 22, it is as guilty of guzzling gas as the rest on this list.
9. Bentley Continental GTC
Among the most expensive cars on this list, anyone who can afford this convertible is perhaps not worried about its fuel intake. It fares as badly as the Mulsanne averaging 11 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on highways. While it is possible to break the world speed record on ice with it, it is anything but eco-friendly.
10. Lincoln Navigator
The Navigator rounds up our list of cars that have no love for the environment. It fares better than the Suburban with an average of 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on highways. With a Green Score of 23, this luxury SUV is nothing to get excited about.
