Son writes off dad's £275,000 supercar

20-year-old writes off dad's £275,000 supercar

It's never pleasant telling someone you've crashed their car - but imagine telling dad you've just written off his £275,000 Gumpert Apollo.
That's what a 20-year-old German man has to do - after he was lucky to escape with his life.
The man, who has not been named, was driving his father's rare supercar when he lost control of it. A 19-year-old girl was with him in the passenger seat.
Amazingly, both escaped with only minor injuries, despite the car being a complete write off.
The driver lost control of the car on a bend and came off the road, spraying parts of the car up to 100-foot away.

Audi e-tron

This rear-drive electric concept bowed in Detroit wearing slinky metal over tidier-than-TT proportions. Unlike the R8-esque EV of the same name, this e-tron isn’t scheduled for production. All is not lost; its design—the aspect we like most—portends that of Audi’s upcoming R4. An equally gorgeous topless version shown in Paris uses a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.

Titanic 99th anniversary

Titanic sinking 99th anniversary remembered in Belfast

The Titanic, her crew, and passengers will be remembered in Belfast later as a ceremony takes place on the 99th anniversary of the ship's sinking.
The RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912 after striking an iceberg.
The disaster claimed the lives of 1,517 people.
Lord Mayor of Belfast Pat Convery and John Andrews, president of the Belfast Titanic Society, will lay wreaths at the Titanic Memorial in the City Hall grounds at 1200 BST.
Following the wreath-laying, a minute's silence will be observed and prayers will be said.
When the ship left Belfast, nine men from Harland and Wolff, including the ship's designer, Thomas Andrews, were on board.
The men were accompanying the ship on her maiden voyage to address any problems which may have arisen on the journey to New York.
Nineteen other Belfast men, most of whom were part of the crew, will also be remembered at the ceremony.

It seems Indians are deeply in need of government attention as millions are now trying to end their lives due to their poverty and their inability to pay back loans. People in remote areas of India are doing unimaginable jobs just to raise money in order to survive. The following photos are just some examples how desperate some people from Indian are to work and make money that will help feed not only themselves but their families.

Final moments of Air France 447 revealed

Final moments of Air France 447 revealed. The ill-fated Air France flight 447, which crashed into the Atlantic ocean on June 1, 2009, en route from Rio De Janeiro to Paris, killing all 228 people onboard, had plunged at nearly 11,000 feet per minute during the final few minutes even as its pilots struggled to regain control following failure of speed sensors, French authorities revealed, Friday.

The 2 black boxes or data recorders recovered from the crash site in early May have given the investigators an insight to the dying moments of flight 447.

France's Bureau of Investigation and Analysis (BEA) said, Friday, that the aircraft ran into severe thunderstorm and the engine stalled, prompting the pilots to respond by pulling the nose up.

The aircraft climbed to 38,000 ft when "the stall warning was triggered and the airplane stalled," the BEA report said.

Amazing Japanese Auto Rickshaw

Green wheels:
Everything old is new again for one Japanese manufacturer, which has unveiled an electronic version of a rickshaw.
The "Meguru" is a three-wheeled, three-seat compact vehicle whose single lithium-ion battery allows for a maximum speed and range of 40 kilometers (25 miles) per hour, although the number of batteries could be increased for a longer ride.

"This is a true environmentally friendly car," said Nobuyuki Ogura, the chief executive officer of Yodogawa Group, which built the vehicle in cooperation with three other small companies in western Japan.
"Instead of an air-conditioner, it comes with a pinwheel, and we are also thinking of adding a wind chime because it gives a refreshing sound to cool you down without the need of electricity," he told Reuters Television. "It doesn't have a heater, but it's equipped with blankets to keep you warm in the winter."

A regular driver's license is required to take the vehicle on the road, but car registration is unnecessary. Devised as part of a project to revitalise small businesses facing economic hardship, the vehicle - which is 2.5 meters (8 ft 2 in) long, 1.2 meters (3 ft 11 in) wide and 1.6 meters (5 ft 3 in) tall - also showcases traditional Japanese crafts.

The body is coated in red lacquer, the floor is filled with recycled bamboo, and the retractable "window" has been carefully crafted in the shape of a Japanese fan using Japanese "washi" paper. All were made by craftsmen in western Japan. The company says it is selling the vehicle for around one million yen ($12,180) while assessing a business plan for mass production.

Even disposing of the car after its usefulness has passed poses no problems. "We've used all-natural materials, so if you ever decide to get rid of the car, simply bury it in the ground," Ogura said.

Giants Struggle For Water Territory

The port of Hamburg serves about half of all exports and imports of Germany. And as the German economy is one of the strongest in the world, its ships must too have gigantic proportions. The port operates year-round, 24 hours a day, non-stop, but some ships, especially the large ones, still try not to sail at night as the maneuvers in the port area are dangerous even in daylight.
To feel the atmosphere of this place here's a short report from the scene. It covers only one morning hour which turned out to be really busy.
Morning, 6-45 am. The MSC Mira is one of the first ships which go out of the port. Being 277m in length it carefully passes some small cargo ship...
And goes on sailing escorted by a tug and a pilot boat.
But it can't gain enough speed because right near the wall of the Airbus plant the monster from Hyundai is moored. Besides, there is another giant on its way which also comes into the port.
The situation is clear to the captain of a small ferry. Skipping the container ship, he rushes at full speed through the formed "gate" when it's still possible.
And while the ferry was being moored, ships successfully passed each other, and there appeared another giant - the Hammersmith Bridge, 336 m in length.
At that very moment a small cargo ship managed to cross the river at full speed right under the nose of the monster. The yellow one is the ferry carrying the workers of the Airbus plant.
Though the passengers got off the ferry has to wait until the hulk sails by.
On the other side of the river another ferry squeezes into the corridor between the two vessels.
But going to the port Hammersmith Bridge can't yet relax  - straight ahead there is another giant and on the right is a spit.
A small ferry quickly leaves a dangerous place.
And the two heavyweights carefully pass each other.
The 349-meter COSCO Oceania is coming to the territory of the Airbus...
...where it has to pass even a larger ship.
The MSC Alexandra, 366 m in length.
Both ferries have to wait till the whopper passes by.
The captain of the Alexandra has to pass another ship leaving the port.
And only then it finally begins looking for the free parking place.
And this is one of the most photographed vehicles - the Rio de Janeiro ship of the Hamburg Süd company. Its length is 274 m.
The captain of a ferry takes a risk and passes really close to it.
After a while, followed by container ships, a rather unusual vehicle appears. Two ferries skip right under its nose at once.
And this is a pretty rare guest here (comparing with container ships). It's the 180-meter Hoegh Oslo of the Höegh Autoliners company.
7-45 am. The movement subsides, and the ferry, without any problems, delivers another batch of aircraft manufacturers to the industrial park - a new working day begins for them.
But life in the port never stops.
Additional difficulties are caused by aircraft which fly very low over the river when landing.
Plus the constantly changing depth of the bottom. That's why several dredgers are constantly working here.
The panorama.
Being unloaded and loaded, the giants start their next voyage.
After which all repeats all over agagin - the same dangerous gaps and heavy traffic in the port of Hamburg.

Airbus unveils futuristic see-through plane

Ever wondered what flying could be like in 2050? If so, you may be keen to discover Airbus' new Concept Cabin... unless you're prone to vertigo.

Scared of heights? Then don't look down…

The plane manufacturer has released pictures of a futuristic jet ahead of the Paris Air Show. The images show a transparent cabin, allowing passengers to enjoy a much wider view while on a flight
And if that wasn't unusual enough, the innovative design also aims to offer services with a difference on board, with personalised zones replacing traditional cabin designs. Passengers will be able to play virtual golf in the aircraft's "interactive zone", or relax in the "vitalising zone" by breathing vitamin and antioxidant-enriched air.
Charles Champion, Airbus Executive Vice President Engineering, commented: "Our research shows that passengers of 2050 will expect a seamless travel experience while also caring for the environment.
"The Airbus Concept Cabin is designed with that in mind, and shows that the journey can be as much a voyage of discovery as the destination. Whichever flight experience is chosen, the passenger of 2050 will step out of the Airbus Concept Cabin feeling revitalised and enriched."
Take a look at more pictures of the Concept Cabin below

New elongated Boeing 747-8 debuts in Paris

New elongated Boeing 747-8 debuts in Paris. Boeing Co's 747-8 Intercontinental, the new elongated passenger version of its legendary jumbo jet, made its international debut on Sunday, showing its distinctive silhouette abroad for the first time.
The high-profile landing of Boeing's new 747 at the Paris Air Show -- three months after its first flight -- marks a show of engineering strength by the world's second-largest plane maker in a competition for control of the wide-body market.

"We've seen a great deal of interest in the last six to eight months as the market has gotten better," Randy Tinseth, Boeing's vice president of marketing at Boeing's commercial division, told Reuters.

In Boeing's standard layout, the new 747-8 will have 467 seats, 51 more than its predecessor, but fewer than the 525 of its main competitor, the A380 made by EADS unit Airbus. The actual seat number, however, will be determined by the airlines.

New Hypersonic Passenger Aircraft Revealed

It turns out supersonic aircraft are just like buses: You wait years for one, and then two come along at once.
Almost eight years after Concorde touched down for the last time, plane manufacturers and designers at the Paris Air Show have unveiled rival "son of supersonic" concepts.
The first, aircraft manufacturer EADS's Zero Emission Hyper Sonic Transport (ZEHST), will be powered by biofuel made from seaweed, carrying passengers above the Earth's atmosphere and dramatically cutting flight times.

EADS says the plane's three engine types -- conventional jets, rockets and supersonic "ramjets" -- will allow it to speed at Mach 4, around 5,000 kmh.
That would cut the journey time from Paris to Tokyo from its current 11 hours to less than 2.5 hours.
There is a catch: The plane is not due to take-off until 2050.
The second, SonicStar, is billed by its creators Hyper Mach as "the future in flight." It will fly at twice the speed of Concorde, linking New York and Dubai in two hours, 20 minutes -- about the time it would take to watch just one in-flight movie -- and allow passengers to fly around the globe in under five hours.
Hyper Mach CEO Richard Lugg said the plane would make "the other side of the world feel like it's just down the road."
Lugg told reporters he had been inspired as a youngster watching the maiden voyage of Concorde, and had made it his "life's work" to come up with the next generation of hypersonic aircraft.
Lugg says the jet will reach speeds of up to Mach 3.6 -- twice the speed of Concorde -- and fly at 18,300 meters, high enough for passengers to see the curvature of the earth.
It also promises reduced emissions and low noise. New technology means it will not create the "sonic boom" its predecessor was known for.
"This is being done with an eye to the future, but it has its feet firmly rooted in solid scientific research," Lugg insists.
And importantly, he also believes it will be ready long before ZEHST: Hyper Mach is aiming to get SonicStar airborne by June 2021.
Like Concorde, though, flying on SonicStar will be out of the reach of most holidaymakers and business travelers: Lugg says it will seat just 20 passengers in "VVIP luxury accommodation."
But experts have sounded a note of caution: These are not the first technologically complex concept planes -- and they may not be the last to end their days stuck on the drawing board.
"Good luck to them, but I'm very skeptical," said Murdo Morrison, editor of Flight International magazine.
He added: "The costs of designing something like this from scratch are astronomical, and even if they can get it to the prototype stage, that's not even half the battle, it's maybe 10%. Aerospace is littered with companies that went bust once they went into production.
"The science exists, we know planes can fly at supersonic speeds: Fighter aircraft do it, Concorde did it -- the technology is there, but the problem is making it work commercially.
"If it was easy, if it was possible, one of the big manufacturers would have done it already."
